Belarus-Syria business meeting

The Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry hosted a business meeting of the Belarusian enterprises and organizations representatives with the businessmen of Tartus Province of the Syrian Arab Republic.

The event was attended by the BelCCI Chairman Vladimir Ulakhovich, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Belarus to the Syrian Arab Republic Yury Sluka, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Syrian Arab Republic to the Republic of Belarus Bassam Abdul Majid, the President of the Tartus Chamber of Commerce and Industry Youssef Chaar, the representatives of more than 60 Belarusian and Syrian enterprises and organizations.

The Chairman of the BelCCI stressed that steps have been taken in recent years to bolster business ties between the two countries. "Belarus has provided humanitarian aid to Syria. Today we can say that there is a commercial interest for our businesses, furthermore, the enterprises of the two countries have signed contracts to supply medical products, mechanical engineering goods to Syria," Vladimir Ulakhovich said. The BelCCI Chairman expressed opinion that the trade between Belarus and Syria may reach $50 million by the end of 2018.

According to the head of the Tartous Chamber of Commerce and Industry Yousuf Shaar, relations between the two countries are developing in a positive manner. Syria needs farm machines, construction equipment, trucks, medicines and medical products, food, – the goods the Belarusian enterprises can offer.

The business meeting participants were discussing cooperation and opportunities to implement joint projects in pharmaceutics, production of building materials, agricultural mechanical engineering, chemical, food industry, IT, woodworking and metallurgy.
