The First Forum of Regions of Belarus and Ukraine in Gomel

The First Forum of Regions of Belarus and Ukraine continued its work in Gomel. The Forum plenary session was held with the participation of the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Belarus Igor Lyashenko, the Vice Prime Minister – Minister of Regional Development, Construction and Housing of Ukraine Gennady Zubko, the Chairman of the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Vladimir Ulakhovich, the President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Ukraine Gennady Chizhikov, the heads of republican and local authorities, businessmen of the two countries.

The plenary session participants discussed a number of issues of trade and economic cooperation of the regions of Belarus and Ukraine, including the possibility of enhancing production cooperation, increasing mutual turnover, as well as the prospects of cross-border interaction, the tourism potential of Belarusian and Ukrainian regions. The BelCCI Chairman presented the tools to support Belarus-Ukraine cooperation offered by the Chambers of Commerce and Industry.
The total number of the Forum participants exceeded 700 people. They discussed the development of trade, economic and investment cooperation of Belarus and Ukraine from the perspective of the potential of direct contacts at regional level.
According to Vladimir Ulakhovich, new contracts in the majority of key industry branches were signed at the Forum, including in mechanical engineering, petroleum chemistry, textile industry. However, there is still space for further deepening of bilateral cooperation. The Chairman of the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry emphasized that it is important that the agenda of the Second Forum of Regions of Belarus and Ukraine includes such issues as new technologies, IT, SME suppport.
