Dear Colleagues and Friends!
We proudly present to you this year’s first issue of the Merkury” newsletter from the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry. As you may see, it has a different logic at its core, compared to previous issues.
In an effort to maximize the added value of the periodical for our readers, we now focuse it each time on a single business-relevant topic and tackle it from different angles. We invite experts in various fields, representatives of government, enterprises and businesses to speak from the pages of ‘Merkury’. We carefully select practical and urgent topics that our economic operators confront in their daily activity.
The first issue is entirely dedicated to Africa.
The International Legal Forum ‘Africa: legal aspects of doing business’, which took place in Minsk in October, raised great interest among Belarusian businesses. African countries are now primary trade and economic destinations of our country, and it is necessary to forge lasting co-operation with them. On the other hand, although Belarusian business has accumulated a certain experience in this market, it still remains largely understudied. Introducing Belarusian companies to the intricacies of working on the African continent becomes therefore a crucial task.
In this new issue of the bulletin our experts offer a detailed analysis of the African countries’ economies. They explore the most enticing cooperation areas, address legal aspects of doing business, explain the subtleties of local thinking, communicating and negotiating that are important to keep in mind while building contacts on the ground.
All in all, Africa is a fascinating region, full of promise and new discoveries.
Next time ‘Merkury’ will cover the Congress on International Payments that took place in Minsk on 11 February, a topic no less important than the Africa trade. We would be highly gratefull to all colleagues and partners who may wish to contribute to this new issue by sharing with us their experience, practical advice and know-how related to various payment instruments.
I also suggest putting such a practice on a regular basis, as the only way to achieve a quality and useful product.
But the innovations do not stop here. We keep pace with the times and work hard to offer you an easy-to-use digital version of ‘Merkury’. We want it to be always handy and helpful in your business.
Mikhail Myatlikov, Chairman of the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry
