On the eve of the visit to Georgia of Alexander Lukashenko, the President of the Republic of Belarus, the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry in cooperation with the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Georgia organized the Georgia–Belarus business forum in Tbilisi.
The opening addresses at the forum were delivered by Mikhail Rusy, Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Belarus, Kakha Kaladze, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Energy of Georgia, Mikhail Myatlikov, Chairman of the BelCCI, and Kakha Baindurashvili, President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Georgia. In their speeches they pointed out significant potential of Belarusian-Georgian trade and economic interaction and mutual interest of the two countries' businesses in developing cooperation in the fields of agriculture and agricultural machinery production, food products manufacturing, pharmaceutical industry, furniture and construction materials production, as well as in production cooperation.
Representatives of 42 Belarusian companies arrived in Tbilisi to attend the forum. Over 200 Georgian companies took part in the event. The Belarusian delegation informed their Georgian counterparts about Belarus' economic potential, export promotion instruments, the terms of doing business in Belarus in the light of the country's membership in the Eurasian Economic Union.
Five contracts estimated at a total of $4 million were signed during the business forum. The cooperation avenues covered by the contracts include mechanical engineering, petrochemical industry and food production.
Business networking and cooperation prospects discussions continued in the course of a business matchmaking session (B2B).
