12 September 2022

As part of the celebration of the 955th anniversary of Minsk, the National Library of Belarus hosted the International Economic Cooperation Forum, organized by the Minsk Branch of the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Minsk City Executive Committee. The event was attended by over 300 representatives of Belarusian state bodies and business communities, 19 countries and 12 regions of Russia.

The forum was opened by Andrei Bugrov, Chairman of the Minsk City Council of Deputies, Nadezhda Lazarevich, Deputy Chairman of the Minsk City Executive Committee, Sergei Nabeshko, General Director of the Minsk Branch of the BelCCI, Andrei Chibis, Governor of the Murmansk Region, Valery Moskalenko, Vice Governor of St. Petersburg. A presentation on the industrial tourism development in the face of modern challenges was made by Dmitry Kharitonchik, Deputy Minister of Industry of the Republic of Belarus. A presentation on tourism and hospitality industry was delivered by Oleg Andreichik, Deputy Minister of Sports and Tourism of the Republic of Belarus.

In his speech, Sergei Nabeshko, Director General of the Minsk Branch of the BelCCI, noted the following: "Each economic forum is now held under the prism of external changes and external challenges. Obviously, the "headliners" of today's forum are, unfortunately, the sanctions and the processes that they have launched. Logistical, financial, cooperative chains are being interrupted. There are arising problems concerning the support of built relationship schemes. However, on the other hand, it is also an impetus to actively respond to these challenges."

He also stressed that today the importance of the decisions taken to localize production facilities and ensure their self-sufficiency is becoming obvious. "Business should be as focused as possible on its own capabilities. Today it is not enough just to buy or sell – it is important to build reliable cooperation ties, primarily aimed at import substitution. The Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry is making every effort to assist businesses in this," Sergei Nabeshko said.

After the plenary part, the work of the forum was continued within the framework of two sections: "Development of industrial cooperation in priority economic activities" and "World food market and food security".

At the end of the event, a visit to Belarusian industrial and food enterprises was organized for foreign guests.
