15 May 2025

On May 15, 2025, Irina Ivanova, Deputy Director General of the Minsk Branch of the BelCCI, held a working meeting with representatives of the delegation from Shanghai’s Xuhui District. The visit by the Chinese side marked a significant step in strengthening multifaceted partnership between Belarus and China.

During the meeting, the parties discussed prospects for deepening cooperation in key areas: industry, education, culture, and trade-economic relations. Special attention was paid to expanding the participation of Belarusian businesses in conferences and exhibitions organized in Shanghai with the support of the Minsk Branch of BelCCI. Participants expressed confidence that the current visit of the Xuhui delegation would unlock new opportunities for joint project implementation and reinforce bilateral ties.

Mr. Li Xinhua, head of the Chinese delegation, emphasized:
“In the year marking the 80th anniversary of the victory in the World Anti-Fascist War, as the international situation grows increasingly complex, China and Belarus must demonstrate unity. We need to strengthen mutual trust, adhere to the principles of equality and openness, jointly promote multilateralism, and counter instability challenges.”

Xuhui District (area: 54.93 km²) is a unique cultural, educational, and scientific hub of Shanghai. It harmoniously blends Eastern and Western traditions and hosts:

·         10+ prestigious universities, including Shanghai Jiao Tong University;

·         150+ research institutes, such as the Shanghai Qizhi Institute;

·         25% of Shanghai’s Class A tertiary hospitals (the highest tier in China);

·         108 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering;

·         A quarter of Shanghai’s laureates of state prizes in science and technology.
Moreover, the district has hosted the World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC) four times consecutively, confirming its status as an innovation hub.

The parties agreed to intensify collaboration across all areas, including delegation exchanges. Irina Ivanova noted:
“Cooperation with a dynamic district like Xuhui will grant Belarusian enterprises access to cutting-edge technologies and new markets. I am confident that the first joint initiatives will emerge shortly after our initial collaborative event, driving trade growth and fostering joint ventures.”

In conclusion, Mr. Li Xinhua reaffirmed the Chinese side’s readiness to support projects of the Minsk Branch of BelCCI and invited Belarusian partners to participate in key Shanghai events.
