Within his official visit to the Republic of Belarus the President of the Republic of Moldova Igor Dodon had a meeting with the Belarusian business community representatives. The meeting, arranged by the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, was attended by the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Belarus Mikhail Rusy, the representatives of a number of domestic enterprises engaged in heavy, light, food industry, agriculture, oil refining, trade, service sector, etc.
The agenda of the meeting included the issues related to trade and economic cooperation of the two countries, the prospects for joint projects implementation, as well as the most problematic issues of Belarusian-Moldovan business relations.
It was mentioned during the meeting that Belarus and Moldova intend to increase mutual turnover up to USD 400 mln in the next couple of years. Besides, Belarus expects to increase its exports to this country by 20-30 percent. The roadmap that involves further steps to achieve it has been developed; the most problematic issues are to be discussed twice a year during the Intergovernmental Commission sessions. Both countries are fostering cooperation in a wide range of fields, from trolleybuses assembly to fruits and vegetables growing. Belarus uses all reasonable efforts to ensure the green channel functioning to import perishable fruit and vegetable products from Moldova.
“Plans are under consideration to set up a joint enterprise for the production of milk in Moldova. We also propose a joint project to make baby food from fruit and vegetables that grow in Moldova and that Belarus does not have so that not to buy them from third countries. We are ready to consider opening a plant for processing, bottling and production of high-quality wine in Belarus. We will provide all preferences, and are ready to consider any options. It is also possible that we will set up a joint factory to make ice-cream,” Mikhail Rusy noted. He specified that the production of wine can involve either Moldova alone, or Moldova-Belarus-Russia, or Belarus-Moldova, or Russia-Moldova.
